Pickling by immersion and spraying
Pickling, etching - removal of the surface layer of metal or cleaning the surface of metal objects from the results of corrosion, oxides, rust, scale, etc. by using acid water solution, alkalis, salt or by electrolytic method. Pickling is the most effective method of metal processing as it uses the strongest oxidising acids: nitrogenous acid or fluoride-hydrogen acid. The use of pickling method allows you to achieve an even colouring and shine of metal objects as well as increases their resistance to chemical corrosion, which is achieved through passivation of the metal surface during pickling process. Pickling can be a separate technological process giving you all of the above mentioned characteristics of metal products. It can also serve as an important step in preparing products for further processing such as e.g.: electrochemical polishing.
Pickling of steel alloys is done in two stages - the initial etching (in hydrochloric or sulphuric acid) and the actual etching in the mixture of specially prepared acids of different strengths and sometimes with the addition of salts facilitating the process. Etching of acid-proof steel brings about an even oxidation of the entire surface. In order to preserve this layer, the metal objects can be additionally put through a passivation process.
